Since October 2004, Prairie State College faculty and staff have been working on an ambitious new project focused on student learning. Our project, supported by a U.S. Department of Education Title III grant, is called: "A Learning Community Approach to Student Success and Retention." Learning communities (LCs)—the integration of multiple courses for a common cohort of students led by instructional teams of faculty and staff—offer a promising strategy for improving our student success rate.
The first three years of this project will focus primarily on developing LCs or LinC (Learning in Community) courses, that increase the success of students enrolled in developmental courses.
